Culpeper is set to host a variety of events this St. Patrick’s Day weekend, ranging from gold hunts to bagpipe performances and historical tours.
160th Anniversary of Battle of Kelly’s Ford
The sold-out Battle of Kelly’s Ford 160th Anniversary Guided Tour, sponsored by American Battlefield Trust, Culpeper Battlefield Tours, Museum of Culpeper History, Culpeper Tourism, and the Brandy Station Foundation, will commemorate the Civil War battle that took place on St. Patrick’s Day in 1863. The event will feature a three-hour trolley and walking tour led by author Dan Davis and Museum of Culpeper History director John Christiansen, exploring key sites of the battlefield.
St. Patrick’s Day on Kelly Street
Kelly Street will host a green-themed fundraiser for the Kelly Street Boxing Club, benefiting at-risk youth. The event will include bagpipes, a kid’s parade, Irish dancing and singing performances, a contest for redheads, and a gold treasure hunt for children. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
Gold Rush 5K and Kids Sprint Event
The Blue Devils Athletic Boosters Club will hold a Gold Rush 5K and Kids Sprint event at Culpeper County High School, with local businesses sponsoring the event to benefit the school’s Athletic Department and athletes. On-site registration begins at 6:30 a.m.
Local St. Patrick’s Day Events and Activities
Several businesses and organizations will host St. Patrick’s Day events throughout the weekend, including:
- Windmore Foundation for the Arts: Open craft time and snacks at the State Theater from noon to 4 p.m.
- Far Gohn Brewery: St. Patty’s Day Social Run, featuring a 3-6 mile run, food, green beer, and live music by the Blue Bottleneck Band.
- Old Trade Brewery & Cidery: Live music by Déjà vu for St. Patrick’s Day from 6-9 p.m.
- Culpeper Eagles Club: Potluck and open mic jamboree at 7 p.m.
- Death Ridge Brewery: Special menu, live music by Say What Again band, and a chance to win a free pint with a gold coin found on your cup.
- Beer Hound Brewery: Launch of “Declan,” a new Irish lager, and bagpipe performances by master piper Davis Hinston.
